What is my MASTER GOAL?

I have been to many Star Wars Celebrations.  I'm going to Boston Comic Con this weekend.  (If you're worried, never fear.  I'm so blogging the con).   I've even been to a few other little con's along the way.  But one has eluded me. The con to bring all con's together, and in the dorkness bind them.

You may have guessed it already.  You may have even attended.  Well, don't go rubbing salt in my wounds, but I confess that I have never attended what I consider to be the big fat kahuna of con's!  Yes, that means you, San Diego Comic Con!  But I'm planning.  I'm going to reel you in, hook, line, and sinker.  Then I'll mount you on my wall.  Maybe I'll even install a little button that when pushed will have you crack cheesy Batman jokes when I have company over.

Well anyway, moving along.  I need to get real for a few moments.  SDCC is my goal for next year.  I will accomplish this goal by making sure to be aware of when the tickets go on sale and actually plan and buy them.  It will be my ultimate triumph.  If I say it,  then it makes it real,  so I'm posting it here,  which is good enough,  right?

This may be tricky, considering Star Wars Celebration is in London next year, and THAT will be pricey.  Three day tickets already sold out.  Yikes.  Anyone know how a little droid can make some extra bucks, around here?

Supernatural

I know I'm late to the party,  but this show is awesome.   I just watched the first season and it has the right level of creep, hot men, horror and plot elements. I was bummed at the cliff hanger.  I'll have to keep watching I guess!
I've got a long line of shows I've planned to watch on Netflix.  The trouble is that during summer I want to go outside and enjoy the beautiful days, but it's the most free time I have to watch shows.  Maybe I'll save it for really late weeknights.

I went to Brooklyn, didn't see Jake.

I was brave and drove to Brooklyn on my own a few weekends ago.  It wad that, or the bus.  It took four hours to go there and 3 hours on the return.  Not too shabby,  right?   I credit the waze app.  Everyone had been telling me about its excellent service with the added bonus of fun voice navigation by 'Arnold' or 'boy band'.

Arnold helped me arrive in Brooklyn safely,  after which I dined on a delicious Polish and Russian dinner.  Stuffed with peiriogi, my friends and I walked to Great Harrys Bar and played a few rounds of old school pinball.  They straight up had an AC/DC machine,  which was definitely a tough pinball setup. I lost horribly!

The last stop that night was the Clover Club.  It's very well known and their cocktails assaulted my tongue with new flavors beyond most that I've had in Boston.   Well played,  Brooklyn.

The morning came with pancakes and coffee! Naturally,  I'm talking brunch in NYC.  Luluc had amazing pancakes and around the corner Blue Bottle served up a cold brew that blended chicory and spices to create a glorious uplifting sip.

Wait,  there's still more!  Museum Hack whisked us around the Met, revealing the underbelly of some of the most famous pieces of their collections.  I never knew how messed up art and the collecting of art really could be.   Then again,  when you get insanely rich people throwing their Benjamins around,  its a crazy time.  I highly recommend their tours.  The guide's theme was 'people have been people for as long as people have been people.' So basically we got the dirty stories behind the art commissions and collections.

My evening wound down with a Mala soup hotter than the human torch (Chris Evans version,  of course - so hot!)  I capped that with a good few lights at Mcsorley's.  I just can't even begin to describe how much that bar rules. Just go!

Not too shabby.  Not too shabby at all.

Btw...I hope at least one person got my post title reference.

Phone Use-less?

I pulled up at a stop light the other day and a driver next to me was talking on the phone.   They didn't have the cell phone on blue tooth,  but they did have it on speaker phone.  However,  they held it to their mouth only a few inches away,  the purpose of which I can't figure out for the life of me.  What's the purpose of putting it on speaker if you're just going to hold it to your face anyway?  Please,  someone, explain this usage and it's purpose?

Moving, twice? Bad idea. Lots of bad ideas.

So, yeah....right.....I had a great idea of moving into my mother's place for a couple months to get free rent and then moving into my new apartment.  ...It was kind of a bad idea.

What really ended up happening was over a month and a half I just moved about a car load a day and ended up busting my hip.  I'm an old lady at 32. (let's not get into the fact that I've also been accidentally telling people my dog is three years old when he's actually four.)

This all coincided with joining a gym. Woop dee doo you may think, but to me this is no ordinary gym.  I pay a whopping 150 a month. That is a lot of money that I can put forward to Taco Tuesday.  The cherry on top is that I had to pull back for 3 weeks until I could attend my gym class and as my hip healed. It's kind of a blow to my ego (and wallet) but on the other hand it's an easy excuse not to work out.

To get myself back on track I had the bright idea of joining their fitness challenge for 6 weeks. I will have to check back in on that in another post because I'm still trying to process the whole deal as if I signed away my soul to the devil.

Anyways, I guess now I'm moved in and it's a little weird.  I'm trying to settle in and enjoy my time. I just kind of wish things would slow up though. At least tonight I had some return to normalcy thanks to some great friends who came over for the first Taco Tuesday ever in my new place.

Here's to the end of silly choices that complicate my life.

Use Your Library! OverDrive reader is so handy!

I love listening to audiobooks!  I also dig reading ebooks on my phone.  I don't have an ereader, but my phone does the job.  If you don't already know, download OverDrive app.  It is completely free and it allows you to sync with your library network to borrow and download books from the library.  Since its from the library, is it free, and you're supporting the local library network!

I highly recommend this is you're trying to save some money from buying ebooks and buying audiobooks.  There's just no need.  It works with pretty much any ereader or smartphone.  As long as you're patient with waiting for books on hold, you'll be find.

My strategy is to just add a bunch of books onto my hold list, and as they come in I keep adding more on standby.  Plus, I use both the minuteman and the Boston public library network to double my hold list.  I even will put the same book on hold from each library to get whichever one will become available first, then remove the hold on the other.

If you're okay waiting a little for books, and a limited selection (which you can suggest books to your library and they'll buy them) then you're going to be as happy as I am.  DO IT!  Arnold says DO IT NOOOWWW!!

Slowing Down

I'm pretty thankful for what I have.  In the summer months, I have a lot of time off because of my job.  When I'm alone for that amount of time I sometimes find myself becoming bored, but I've eliminated that feeling quite often with self reflection and simply 'slowing down'.

I would suggest this to anyone.  Your time does NOT have to be filled.  Sitting alone in a room, without the TV or radio on (okay maybe music is allowed...) is a good thing.  I especially emphasize that TV suggestion.  Without anything visually stimulating, I find I can actually completely slow down and absorb myself with, well, myself.

Today I watched a video clip about privilege in which individuals would step forward or backwards after being asked questions about status or social rank.  That gave me a lot to think about in my down time.  I think it made me glad for my life and the role I have in my tiny little space.  Maybe consider taking five minutes, today, and just slow down, sit, and think.

Battling the bulge

I'm up about 8 pounds from a little over a year ago.  It's double super secret probation time.  Defcon 5.  I've gone to plaid.  Warp 9.  Yikes!   Anyone got any good psych me up advice to get back on track?   Or is this just me, getting older and therefore fatter?

Here's the clincher: I have all the tools to maintain a healthy weight.   I know how to cook and organize healthy meals,  I am well equipped to be maintaining an exercise regiment.

My doom is brought with my social life.   It's usually involving eating out with drinks,  taco nights, or fun weekends away where we stuff or faces and "hydrate".

So,  what do I do?

Commercials, no jingle?

Does anyone else think that ads on TV are missing catchy jingles these days?  I've been sitting at my parents house,  which has a TV (I haven't had one at my apartment for a few years now) and the ads have no fun jingles.  It's either another boring car commercial, or a zany take on what would be concidered random and odd.  Case in point, any old spice commercial.   I'm over joe-average with a dead pan voice having random crap fly by around the background that culminates in a huge explosion.   It's old.

I think I'm getting old, too. It's 9:19pm and I feel like going to bed.   No jingle power left in me.   Goodnight!
